The following listings support the exchange of
water-related data between network partners. At this time, communities of interest are creating exchanges related to ambient water quality, drinking water quality, geospatial information, and point source monitoring. More information and links to implementation resources for each data exchange appear below.
ambient water quality
- Beach Monitoring
Under the BEACH Act (Beaches Environmental Assessment and Coastal Health Act), grant recipients are required to submit beach monitoring data to the U.S. EPA. EPA is currently accepting beach monitoring, station location, and sample and result data through the Water Quality Exchange.
Status: In Production
- Beach Notification
Under the BEACH Act (Beaches Environmental Assessment and Coastal Health Act), grant recipients are required to submit beach notification data to the U.S. EPA. This data exchange allows for the reporting of beach meta data, contact information, and beach advisory and closing data.
Status: In Production
- California Environmental Data Exchange System (CEDES)
The California Environmental Protection Agency's Department of Water Resources and the State Water Resources Control Board are expanding their existing data management system to make California's environmental data compatible and accessible for analysis and reporting. Partners in this data exchange will trade information using Exchange Network protocols and infrastructure.
Status: In Development
- Chesapeake Bay Program Regional Exchange for BMPs
This data exchange allows Chesapeake Bay states to submit and solicit data on Non-Point Source Best Management Practices to and from the U.S. EPA Chesapeake Bay Program Office (CBPO).
Status: In Development
- Pacific Northwest Water Quality Data Exchange
This data exchange was developed by the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska. It allows partners to share water quality sampling and monitoring data.
Status: In Production
point source monitoring
- Discharge Monitoring Reports (eDMR & NetDMR)
These projects are expanding the availability of electronic DMR reporting to states and U.S. EPA using Exchange Network technologies.
eDMR Status: In Production
NetDMR Status: In Development
drinking water quality
- Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS)
This data exchange allows users to submit data to the U.S. EPA's Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS). SDWIS is an EPA national database that contains information about public water systems and their violations of EPA's drinking water regulations.
Status: In Production
- Electronic Drinking Water Report (eDWR)
This data exchange allows states to implement an electronic flow of drinking water data directly from laboratories and water systems to the State Drinking Water Programs. It also allows access to laboratory data in XML format for U.S. EPA programs and the general public via Network Nodes.
Status: In Production
geospatial information
- Minnesota Hydrographic Geospatial Data Project
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, partnering with the Minnesota Department of Administration's Land Management Information Center and working through the Minnesota Governor's Council on Geographic Information Hydrography Committee, proposes to enter into a cooperative agreement with U.S. EPA to research and develop the systems and methodologies necessary to support hydrographic-related geospatial data exchanges.
Status: In Development
- Kentucky Watershed Modeling Information Portal
Offices from Kentucky State government are collaborating with U.S. EPA Region IV, the U.S. Geological Survey, and the Open GIS Consortium to build a web portal that will quickly and accurately deliver current
and appropriately formatted watershed model input data.
