Data Exchange Description

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), the Pacific Northwest Pollution Prevention Resource Center (PPRC), the Pollution Prevention Resource Exchange Network (P2Rx), the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable, and the Environmental Protection Agency, entered into a cooperative agreement to exchange regional and national Pollution Prevention (P2) measurement data. The project is a collaborative process involving CDPHE and the eight national P2Rx Centers working with the state, local, non-profit, and other P2 programs that participate in a national network to integrate P2 data from a variety of different sources. Network Partners will be able to send their P2 data to their regional P2Rx Center in one of two ways:

  1. Send data direct to their P2Rx Center via a semi-automated tool which is currently in production, or
  2. Send data to the PPRC national P2 database via an automated node-to-node transfer.

Under option 1, Partners will send data using either the regional data submittal tool or via their node, depending on the States’ and Centers’ capabilities. Once the Center receives the data, it will be aggregated on a regional basis and then transferred by the Center to the national P2 database. PPRC shares the aggregated regional P2 data with EPA and other Partners as a possible new Exchange Network data flow.

Under option 2, Partners will flow data directly to the PPRC national P2 database via a node-to-node exchange. CDPHE’s Sustainability and P2 database flows directly to the PPRC national P2 database via PPRC’s node, demonstrating a node-to-node data exchange. The P2 data are then transferred to the Peaks to Prairies P2Rx Center for aggregation into the regional and national databases.
