Join the Exchange Network

The Exchange Network is a partnership among States, Territories, Tribes, and EPA to support better environmental decisions through improved access to, and exchange of, environmental information. This guide will help new Partners participate on the Network.

How to Get Started

1. Use the Exchange Network Website
  • Network Basics: Partners on the Network exchange information through Nodes and clients that are securely connected to the Internet and use eXtensible Markup Language (XML) to communicate. Learn the basics in the About Section.
  • Network Data Exchanges: Find out what data exchanges Partners use to share water-, air-, waste-, health-, and cross program-related data in the Data Exchanges Section.
2. Read the Getting Started Guides
  • Join an Existing Exchange – Leverage resources already available to exchange data via the Network.
  • Build a New Exchange– Develop resources for exchanging new kinds of data over the Network.
  • Apply for an Exchange Network Grant – Get funding to support Exchange Network projects.
3. Learn About the Benefits
  • Exchange Network Benefits
  • Exchange Network Return on Investment and Business Process Analysis describes how EN technologies have reduced operating costs, streamlined business processes, and improved data accuracy and accessibility.
4. Identify Ways to Use the Network

Existing Data Exchanges are improving Partners’ business processes with more streamlined data exchange, access, and integration.

The Exchange Network National Meetings provide opportunities to learn about current and future Network tools and services.

Existing Partners share what they have learned and cooperate on developing new tools and exchanges.
