Data Exchange Description
In March 2008, EPA initiated the development of the Consolidated Emissions Reporting Schema (CERS). The objective of this effort was to develop a common air emissions reporting schema that could be used for sharing and reporting air pollution emissions data.
The schema is designed to support the reporting of criteria air pollutants and air toxic emissions, as well as greenhouse gases. The resulting benefits include greater efficiencies for States and industry reporters submitting to multiple programs, clearer and consistent requirements across these programs, and the capability to utilize agency infrastructure, including the Exchange Network, to share these data among Partners.
The CERS is not a data flow. It is a set of XML schemas that may be used for different data flows. It is currently intended for use in the exchange of Emissions Inventory System (EIS) data.
The most current version of CERS is v2.0, which was published in October 2020 for use with the Emissions Inventory System data flow beginning in June 2021.
